HitchSource sells hitches and accessories for cars. The key challenge with HitchSource was that half of their catalog is specific to each car. For example, the 2010 Dodge Dakota hitch goes only with the 2010 Dodge Dakota wiring harness. This makes it difficult to create recommendations and even more difficult to have a large effect with recommendations.

Solution

4‑Tell was the perfect solution since we easily enable the customer to implement proprietary business rules on top of our system. HitchSource used this capability to create filters so that we recommended deeper into their catalog (and not across car models), such as showing that they have a chrome plated ball for the 2010 Dodge Dakota hitch.

Results

We performed A/B testing, where half the visitors were shown recommendations and half were not shown recommendations. Amazingly, the visitors that were shown recommendations spent 10% more per visit compared to the visitors that were not shown 4‑Tell recommendations.
